After being inspired by TikTok videos, Pernilla Hegland decided to launch her own company selling and designing polymer earrings.
While scrolling through the unlimited videos on TikTok Pernilla came across a tutorial on how to make polymer earrings. Having always been a crafty individual she decided to give it a try for herself. After designing and manufacturing a large number of products, the idea arose to start selling them. Pernilla had previous experience of running her own company and remembered the wonderful feeling of being her own boss. However, during her previous experience of entrepreneurship, several problems had arisen and Pernilla wanted to avoid similar issues. That is what lead her to seek the help of Drivhuset.
Now Pernilla runs the company Milkyway Design where she sells her handmade polymer clay earrings. The next step in the company is to start independently forging silver jewellery and ultimately her goal is to reach a point where she can work full time with her passion. Pernilla details more about her experience, goals, and tips below:
Tell us how you got the idea!
-“It started about a year ago when I sat watching TikToks about people who made polymer clay earrings and I was inspired. I love to do crafts and decided to try, once I started it was hard to stop. In the end, I had so many products that I wanted to start selling,” Pernilla describes.
Has starting your own business always been something that’s interested you? Or how would you describe your journey?
-“I have had my own company before when I did nail extensions on clients. I chose to phase it out because of time limitations. Having previously run my own company gave me good experiences and above a desire to give it another shot, being your own boss is an amazing feeling.”

During the coming year, what are your goals for your company?
-“I aim to be able to work full time with my company, that’s my big dream! Next year, I will invest in developing the company further and start forging my own silver jewelry that I can combine with the polymer clay. One goal is to be able to design everything from scratch.”
